Daniel L. Engeljohn, Ph.D., Assistant Administrator
Food Safety and Inspection Service U.S. Department of Agriculture
Dr. Engeljohn serves as the senior executive overseeing field operations for the Department’s public health regulatory agency. He is responsible for ensuring that risk management policies conducted by nearly 7,800 employees are effectively carried out daily in 6,000 meat, poultry, and processed egg products facilities nationwide. In his 33 years at USDA, he has served as a Meat Marketing Specialist, a Food Technologist, and a Program Manager.
Terry Fleck, Executive Director
The Center for Food Integrity
As Executive Director, Terry guides the day to day planning and operations of this international organization. Founded in 2007, CFI’s vision is to lead the public discussion to build trust in today’s food system and facilitate dialog with the food system to create better alignment with consumer expectations.
Terry served for 16 years as the Executive Vice President of the Indiana Pork Producers Council and the Indiana Pork Advocacy Coalition, including public policy experience at the state and national levels. He has also held positions with the U.S. Grains Council in Washington, D.C. and Vienna, Austria and with Vigortone Ag Products.
Terry has additional experience with association development and management in more than 20 years of consulting with churches and other not-for-profits at the local, state, national and international levels. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), a member of the American Society of Association Executives, past officer of the Indiana Society of Association Executives, former President and board member of the Indiana Livestock Alliance, and a former instructor with Dale Carnegie Training.
Terry is a graduate of Purdue University, which recognized him in 2005 with their Distinguished Animal Science Alumni Award.
Tom Super, Vice President of Communications
National Chicken Council
Super brings more than 12 years of combined experience in strategic communications, public policy, politics and meat and poultry issues management to NCC’s senior management team. He is responsible for day-to-day media relations, media outreach, social media management and strategic communications planning to supplement the National Chicken Council’s legislative, regulatory, consumer education and marketing efforts.
Dan Walters has been a journalist for more than a half-century, spending all but a few of those years working for California newspapers. At one point in his career, at age 22, he was the nation’s youngest daily newspaper editor.
Mr. Walters joined The Sacramento Union’s Capitol bureau in 1975, just as Jerry Brown began his governorship, and later became the Union’s Capitol bureau chief. In 1981, he began writing the state’s only daily newspaper column devoted to California political, economic, and social events and in 1984, he and the column moved to The Sacramento Bee. He has written more than 7,500 columns about California and its politics and his column now appears in more than 50 California newspapers.
Dan Walters has written about California and its politics for a number of other publications, including The Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. He is also a frequent guest on national television news shows, commenting on California politics. In 1986, his book, The New California: Facing the 21st Century, was published in its first edition. He is also the founding editor of the California Political Almanac; the co-author of a book on lobbying entitled The Third House: Lobbyists, Money and Power in Sacramento, and contributed chapters to two other books, Remaking California and The New Political Geography of California.
